EquiLend Data & Insights MCP Connector: securities finance data in AI-assisted workflows. An ALTALLO Perspective

EquiLend has launched the EquiLend Data & Insights MCP connector, bringing live securities finance data into compatible AI assistants. Ask about borrow costs, short interest trends and top movers in natural language, without moving between dashboards and reports.
9 September 2026. EquiLend, the securities finance technology and data provider behind NGT, EquiLend Data & Analytics, the EquiLend Short Squeeze Score and Orbisa, has launched the EquiLend Data & Insights MCP connector. It brings live securities finance data into compatible AI assistants, so borrow costs, short interest trends and top movers can be requested in natural language rather than retrieved from a dashboard, a scheduled report or a file.
1. The announcement, as published by EquiLend
Your workflows are evolving with AI. Your access to securities finance intelligence should too.
The new EquiLend Data & Insights MCP connector brings live securities finance data into compatible AI assistants.
Simply ask about borrow costs, short interest trends, or top movers in real-time. Get to the intelligence you need using natural language, without jumping between dashboards and reports.
It is part of how EquiLend is listening to our clients and building for where the market is headed, making our data easier to access and ready for the next generation of AI-assisted workflows.
2. The three uses EquiLend names
Borrow costs. This is the first of three uses named in the announcement. The assistant calls the connector at the moment the question is asked rather than answering from model memory. The example wording of any question below is ALTALLO's illustration, not EquiLend copy.
Short interest trends. The second named use. EquiLend's own published securities finance recaps report this through metrics such as borrow quantity and utilisation.
Top movers. The third named use, described in the announcement as available in real time rather than only through a scheduled report.
3. What an MCP connector is
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting an AI assistant to an external system. Rather than relying on what a model absorbed during training, the assistant calls the provider at the moment the question is asked. For a data provider such as EquiLend, publishing an MCP connector means clients can reach the licensed dataset from inside the assistant they already use, with a single connector working across any assistant that supports the protocol.
Three properties matter for a regulated desk. The figure is requested rather than remembered, so it carries a source and a time. One protocol serves many assistants, so the integration is not rebuilt per tool. And the interface is language rather than syntax, so there is no report path or field name to memorise.
4. What it changes for a securities finance desk
The question replaces the query. Securities finance data has traditionally been reached through a dashboard, a scheduled report or a file, each of which requires the user to know where the field lives before they can use it. Natural language moves the effort from finding the data to framing the question.
Fewer context switches in the trading day. A stock loan trader, a securities finance desk head or a risk analyst working inside an AI assistant no longer has to leave that assistant to check a borrow cost.
The data source stays licensed and identifiable. A connector is not a model trained on a dataset. The assistant asks EquiLend for the figure at the moment of the question, so the answer traces back to a licensed source with a timestamp.
Securities finance joins the AI tooling conversation. Connector announcements in capital markets have tended to come from broad market data and private markets providers. Securities finance is a narrower, more specialist dataset, and specialist data is often where an assistant adds the most value.
5. Questions worth asking before building a workflow on it
The following are ALTALLO's questions and ALTALLO's reading of them. None are answered in the announcement, so EquiLend is the right party to confirm each one.
Which assistants can use it. Any AI assistant supporting the Model Context Protocol, a set that is expanding. Confirm supported clients with EquiLend for your own environment before planning around it.
Whether entitlement changes. A connector is an access route, not a new licence. The sensible assumption is that what is visible through the connector reflects existing entitlements, and EquiLend is the right party to confirm that against an agreement.
Where the request travels. Technology and information security teams will ask this first: what is logged, which environment the assistant runs in, and how the prompt and response are handled.
Whether it replaces the reports. Nothing in the announcement suggests the published data, recaps and reports go away. The connector sits alongside them as another way in.
